Haul
In the silver eye of the storm
There is no air to breathe
Every constellation, is swallowed by solving emptiness
I sometimes imagine my death on the tracks
Is to keep that to myself, unfair to you?
I fear the depth of the sea and the darkness that sustains me
The night is shoreless
I cannot recall the last time I loved you the way that you deserve
I try almost every day and fall short
There is no way to arrive without regrets
I sometimes imagine myself a widower, with another wife
Am I untrue, if I don’t tell you?
Jettison all the pain into darkness
When the dawn chorus begins
I have lived through no great tragedy
I can’t imagine that would make me a better man

Enshrine
So, this is not the year I break ground
My script burns instead on the scaffold
Follow the sun wherever it goes
I make my home, in a high wind
If I stay on the ground, nothing awaits me
I would die in sunlight or resonate
Follow the sun wherever it goes
I make my home, in a high wind
Enshrine these dreams in a golden grave
Forever carve their wane into the mountain face
If I fall down
I will crawl on
If I die, I die

Amor Fati
For a time I dreamt of a home
To be built by all of us
I even laid this new foundation
I thought a dream could be shared
But the night saw it crumble
And, I’m not my brothers’ anvil
I can stomach the poison administered
It will wear off, along with this dry spell
Set it all afire
Under this lonely moon
I won’t even try to sleep tonight
Set it afire
To acquiesce the night
Set it afire
And watch the flames
Pull these roots out of my throat
I can scale this summit alone
Though the summer sun looms like a hammer
I won’t fault it for beating me down
Return to life
On this barren soil
I will work until my hands become stone
Return to life
Without provision
Return to life
When the river flows
